Do you need a 4WD to access?
The Good news is you only need a standard two-wheel drive vehicle to get to the Car Park, and virtually no Hiking is involved. Yep, you heard that right; there is literally 20 metres to walk from the Car park to the edge of the waterhole.
There are bathrooms located conveniently in the car park. It’s not the Ritz though, and just one of those environment drop toilets you see in many National Parks. Although, it’s still good enough if you need to go!

Can you swim there?
Yes, you can definitely swim at Cedar Creek Falls, especially in the summertime (December to March) or after some heavy rain.
Mind you, the temperatures of the water are more bearable during the summertime for a nice refreshing dip from the summer humidity.
Seen as the area is so shaded, the water is extremely brisk during winter and doesn’t get many swimmers. Although, this is a good time for photographers and low lighting effects.
Also, know there isn’t much swimming, as opposed to sitting or splashing around. The waterhole isn’t very deep, and you’ll find people sitting and relaxing in the water.
It might also be handy to chat to a local before heading there. Not that it’s an huge concern, but baby fresh water Crocodiles have been found “on occasions” (which are pretty harmless). It just probably something you don’t want to be surprised running into one.
Note: it’s one of the best Free things you can do in the area, especially if you only have a single day to explore. But, I do think of the downsides to this and expect crowds there on a hot summer day.

Best Time to visit?
The popular months to visit Airlie Beach will be around the summertime, from December to March. However, This will be the highest rainfall, incredibly crowded, and the warmest month for swimming.

Ultimately, I feel like the best time of year is the shoulder seasons or throughout winter (anything from April to October) when the crowds are less, prices are cheaper, and the weather is still warm enough.
But I have the average temperatures and rainfall mentioned below to help you out!
