About Queensland
The northeastern section of Australia is where we have the sunny state of Queensland. Tourists visit here for the beachside accommodations, the Great Barrier Reef, and the rugged Outback lifestyle. It has a population of over 5 million people and covering an area of 1.8 million square kilometres. It’s the second largest and the most popular state to visit in Australia.
With the Queensland State being so big, the climate does vary throughout the areas. It has a lot of rainfall along the coast, with the wet season during the summer from December to February. Extreme conditions are common in Outback QLD, including hot days into cold nights. Furthermore, the limited rainfall in the Outback, may cause flooding. Snow is very rare, but happens in the higher regions, in the south, around Stanthorpe.
The capital is Brisbane, with over 2 million people and located in the South-Eastern coastal corner. In fact, about half of the population of the entire state is contained in this South East locality. As the state is so large, it’s referred into sections like Tropical North QLD, Central, Southern QLD, Southern Country, and Outback QLD.
Highlights in Queensland include The Gold Coast & Surfers Paradise Beach, The Beautiful tropical island destinations in the Whitsundays, and Rainforests in the Daintree. Alternatively, exploring the underwater life in the Great Barrier Reef or hiking/camping in over 200 National Parks.
