If you’re heading to Rockhampton, you might be searching for a lookout where you can soak up the views without tackling a huge hike. We found an amazing one at Mount Archer National Park, and more specifically, at the Skywalk and Lookout point.
Many travellers think they need to climb tough trails to score sweeping panoramas, but the Skywalk offers an easy treetop boardwalk suspended along the mountain, leading to incredible views across Rockhampton and the Fitzroy River. The Nurim Circuit Walk an easy walk, and one of those experiences that gives you maximum reward with minimum effort.

Where is the Mount Archer Lookout & Skywalk
You can get to Mt Archer National Park and the Skywalk within 20 mins of driving (please see location map here) from Rockhampton central. Just follow Pilbeam Drive all the way until you get to the top of Mt Archer.
The easiest and quickest way to get there is with your own transport.
There are several walks available, but the Skywalk is on the Nurim Circuit Walk.
When you first arrive!
You first arrive at a decent size car park. I could see several shaded picnic tables, Barbeques, toilet facilities, and what they call the Amphitheatre. Seems there were many families taking advantage of this area, as it was a nice Sunday afternoon outing.
The Amphitheatre is a lookout point over the city of Rockhampton, as well as a maintained grassed area for outdoor picnics and relaxing. This requires very little walking from the car park and could be accessed by anyone.

The Nurim Circuit with the Lookout
You will be happy to know that the Treetop Boardwalk is very accessible to almost everyone. It’s called the Nurim Circuit and was a flat, well-formed track, not far from the Car Park.
The loop walk is only 580 metres and Grade 1, with the Boardwalk about halfway. We spent about 20 minutes looking around, immersing ourselves in nature, taking photos, reading the signs, and getting the drone up.

Mount Archer stands at 604 metres above sea level with the scenic backdrop of Rockhampton.
The Skywalk is a structure in the shape of a half-circle, formed as part of the Nurim Circuit trail. There are several spots to read signs and find the local plant life. Additionally, a special lookout section for the sunsets. Although the sunset can be viewed from anywhere on the boardwalk.

The boardwalk itself is not that high off the ground, so even the people afraid of heights can give it a go. Alternatively, there is a short cut on the original Track, which diverts around and misses the boardwalk altogether.
It extends about 25 metres off the side of Mount Archer and about 500 metres in length to walk. Facing west, This means it is a great lookout spot for Sunset photography, although you can catch a sunrise behind you.

Don’t forget to check out the local plant life, but also be on the lookout for local Kangaroo’s and other animals that could be around.
