Swap your Itinerary with these options?

1. Q1 Observation Deck

The Q1 Observation deck can be accessed within four blocks or 10 Minutes of Cavill Avenue and has absolutely the best views on the Gold Coast. This thrilling experience takes you up 77 floors in just a matter of seconds. And, once you’re there, you can marvel at the phenomenal 360-degree views, whether day or night.

➡  Purchase Tickets to The Observation Deck HERE with GYG

The best news is, there’s no time limit for your visit, so you can take in the sights, use the binoculars, wander around, or relax in one of the chairs. Additionally, even with all that excitement, you can still grab some snacks and a coffee at the café to keep your energy levels up for the rest of your day.

There are some unbelievable views from the Q1 Observation deck

2. Skypoint Climb

Take your Q1 Building experience one step further and complete the Skypoint Climb Challenge. This takes you to the same observation deck mentioned above, but instead, you get to step outside and walk around the top.

This is one way to take your love for heights to the next level and feel the rush of adrenaline. Essentially, you’ll be strapped into a purpose-built railing system and walk 50 metres up to a needle-like spire and back down the other side.

While the Observation deck has brilliant views behind the glass windows, the Skypoint Climb is unrestricted and the highest external climb in Australia. And, after visiting a few times myself, trust me, Skypoint Deck & Climb is worth the experience!

3. AquaDuck or Quack-A-duck

Your day wouldn’t be complete without trying a Gold Coast city tour with a bit of difference, aboard the AquaDuck or Quackaduck. Both can be accessed from Surfers Paradise and a one-of-a-kind vehicle, offering a land and sea adventure with live commentary about the Gold Coast.

It’s driven through the streets and water canals, explaining the area’s history, housing prices, and other exciting information. And the best part is that it operates every day, with several tours scheduled throughout the day, so you can easily fit it into your schedule.

9. Beach time or swimming

The beach is what draws crowds of tourists to this region each year. With the coast’s pristine sandy beaches spanning over 50 kilometers, you’re sure to find your perfect spot to hang out for a few hours.

Whether you prefer to just soak up the sun, try some surfing, Kayaking, paddle Boarding, you can do it all on the beach. And know that lifeguards are patrolling it seven days a week to ensure the safety of everyone there.

There always time to swim at the beach in Surfers

10. Surfing lessons

Did you ever think you wanted to try out surfing and never found the time? Well, now you have no excuse and can easily book an introductory lesson right here. Not only is surfing a thrilling outdoor activity, but it’s also a great workout.

And don’t worry if you don’t know how to surf, with the right instruction and practice, anyone can get the hang of it. But you are told to relax and let the wave come to you, rather than trying to force it. However, for people like me, it can be just as much fun bodyboarding!

11. Mini Golf

There are a few Mini Golf centres, with two of them within walking distance of Cavill Avenue. Holey Moley Putt-Putt has got you covered with two different mini-golf courses to choose from. And you can choose the number of holes to challenge depending on how much time you have available!

Mini golf is a whole of fun with your partner, family, or a group of friends. But that’s not all. After you’ve sunk the final hole, head into the Karaoke Room or mosey over to the cocktail bar for some well-deserved relaxation.

12. Timezone

Timezone is more of a family-friendly activity and a place to have some pure, unadulterated fun. This epic entertainment hub is a favourite among kids and adults, offering up a range of activities and skill games to keep you happy for hours on end.

This includes pinballs, and it’s always a blast on the Air hockey Table. But also computer games and other exciting games and challenges. Plus, with a friendly and welcoming staff on hand to help you out, you know you’re in good hands. And when you’re ready for a break, head over to the café to grab a quick bite to eat or sip on something refreshing.

See the art sculptures along the Esplanade

13. Strike Bowling

Who doesn’t like a challenging game of ten-pin bowling? Well, Strike Bowling on Cavill is the perfect spot to let loose, have a few laughs, and knock as many pins over as you can. With opening hours that cater to night owls, you can bowl, sing your heart out in their karaoke room, and test your detective skills in their two escape rooms.

Whether you’re out with friends or family, bowling offers an exciting experience that will leave you with great memories of your day. And with a well-stocked cocktail bar and mouth-watering food options, it’s easy to see why this is a favourite.

Nothing beats those morning beach views on the Gold Coast

14. Hire a Bike and ride the esplanade.

The Esplanade trail runs for kilometres along the beachfront and is used by the locals for daily exercise. While you may not be able to cover the entire 57 kilometres in one day, it’s still a brilliant way to tour the place and see the sites.

So, whether you’re in the mood for a leisurely ride, a bit of a challenge, or a way to get from A to B without walking, it’s an ideal activity. And the best part? The whole family can get involved and enjoy it together!

Where to stay?

Whether you’re after a budget backpacker hostel or something a bit more fancy, you’ll find the perfect place to stay in Surfers Paradise. This includes basic accommodation with a bit of comfort, rooms overlooking the beach, self-contained apartments, or even one of the highest rooms in town. A couple that we have stayed in are:

To be honest, I think every one of my visits has been to a different hotel. That’s not to say I didn’t like them, but primarily choosing based on the price at the time of year and having parking available. Consequently, each one has been good in their own way and would would stay with them again.

How to get there?

Getting to the coast means researching a few ideas like choosing either Brisbane or Coolangatta to fly into. While Coolangatta is closer, you might find cheaper and increased options coming into Brisbane.

➡Find your favourite brand & compare prices for your Rental Car HERE

From there, are you more of a road trip lover? Then, hop in your car and hit the highway. Car hire provides a sense of freedom and control over where you go and when. However, there are certain situations where it may not be necessary.

➡  Find a Shuttle Service HERE with GYG, or HERE with Viator.

However, you might not need a car, especially if the places you visit are near each other. In this case, Shuttle Bus transport, walking, or public transportation might be a more viable option.

Does it help to have more days?

With the amount of things to do in the area, I honestly think you need at least three days in Surfers Paradise, but this also includes getting out a bit further. With three days, you can immerse yourself in the laid-back coastal lifestyle, explore the bustling night markets, and indulge in some incredible dining experiences.

We both loved the Sunset River Cruise through the canals

Best Time to visit?

You’re lucky that organising a time of year to visit the Gold Coast is easy when it has a warm tropical climate. Sure, the winter season from May to August does drop in temperature a bit, and you will need warmer clothing, but you’ll still see some people swimming.

With that said, as a local, I think the winter sun is the best time to hang out on the beach on the Goldy. But if you’re trying to plan your dream vacation, each season does offer its own perks. Summer is perfect for a classic beach experience, while spring and autumn provide milder temperatures and fewer crowds.

You can see heaps of Pelicans on the Gold Coast

Is it safe at night?

Visiting a new city can be an exciting adventure, but it’s normal to have some concerns about safety in unfamiliar places. I’ve spent plenty of times over the years wandering the streets of Surfers at night. And while it was a lot safer back in the early days, I believe you can still do it within reason now.

When it comes to areas like Cavil Avenue and the night markets, I can confidently say that I wouldn’t hesitate to stroll around a few hours after dusk. However, it’s important to exercise common sense and avoid risky situations like walking down dark alleyways or traveling alone.
