Day 1 – Beach, Lookouts, Mini Golf & Ripley’s
Q1 Building
First stop for the best views, the Q1 Building has got you covered. Spend about an hour peering out from the Skypoint Observation Deck is worth it, providing a stunning 360-degree perspective of the coastal area. This includes from the sandy beaches to the lush Hinterland and UNESCO area.
➡ Purchase your Skypoint Tickets HERE with Get Your Guide.
But if you’re feeling adventurous, the Skypoint climb is definitely a highlight. As Australia’s highest external building climb, you’ll be perched on a railing system outside the top of the building. It might sound daunting, but I’ve done it a couple of times myself, and you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment once you’ve completed it.

Mini Golf
Mini Golf is the perfect way to spend your spare time day or night.
Not only does it offer tons of fun and laughs, but it also tests your skills and helps you challenge your friends or family in a friendly competition.
There’s nothing quite like the thrill of a well-executed putt as you watch the ball bounce along the winding-themed course before landing perfectly in the hole. Plus, mini golf is a great way to exercise your creativity and problem-solving abilities.

Beach Time
Are you craving some beach time?
Then, satisfy all your sun-soaked dreams with over 50 kilometres of this gorgeous coastline. Not only does it provide endless options for the perfect spot to set up shop for the day, but it’s what has been drawing tourists here for over 50 years.
You might be in the mood for a refreshing dip in the water, a relaxing sunbathing session, Beach Volleyball, or other exhilarating beach activities. So, if you only have one day to spend in Surfers, getting some beach time is the ultimate choice for anyone seeking a relaxing paradise.

Ripley’s Believe it or Not!
The name Robert Ripley is synonymous around the world for finding interesting people, cultures, and creatures and then sharing those stories with the world.
One of the museums has been in Surfers Paradise for as long as I can remember, and I’ve been several times.
This establishment is home to some of the strangest and most shocking exhibits you’ll ever lay eyes on. From the Tallest man to a real shrunken head.
The best part? There’s no need to book in advance, so just walk right up to the front desk and start exploring!

Day 2 – Day Trip to Springbrook
No itinerary would be complete without venturing at least one day in the rainforest Hinterland.
While you could be exploring this area for days, I think finding a way into Natural Bridge is ideally suited to almost everyone. Plus organised tours are available for those that don’t want to drive.
➡ Find Springbrook Tours HERE with GYG, or HERE with Viator.
This scenic one-kilometre loop track will take you through the rainforest with views of a Waterfall bridge from above. And let’s not forget how the crashing water cut a hole in the volcanic rock that broke through into a cave you can enter below.
More importantly, if you visit this cave in the evening (guided tours for this too), you’ll witness an amazing display of glow worms covering the walls like stars in the sky. But don’t worry, this track is sealed, some even boarded and well-maintained with fencing, so it is suitable for everyone.

Day 3 – Water Activities
Today is all about adventure and taking advantage of the surrounding waters. You can either choose between all the option below (based on your interests), or try and fit them all in.
Jet Ski
For starters, you can join a Jet Ski tour as a single or double rider. Don’t worry about having your licence either, because after a quick security and training briefing, you’re ready to hit the water with your guide.
➡ Find Jet Ski Tours HERE with GYG, or HERE with Viator.
I highly recommend the morning tour that takes you from Main Beach to Coran Cove for breakfast, but there are shorter one-hour tours as well. Enjoy the serenity, having fun zipping through the water or jumping the waves.

Jet Boat
You won’t be able to take your smile off your face with a Jetboating experience.
Brace yourself while reaching speeds you wouldn’t do yourself, and the professional guide doing 360’s in the waterways. This is fun for the whole family but be prepared to get wet on a 30 to 60-minute tour.

River Cruise
Have you ever wanted to see the Surfers Paradise from a different perspective?
A river cruise might just be the answer for you to learn about the area and see all the expensive houses along the shores. The natural surroundings of the waterways offer an idyllic and calming backdrop to your journey, allowing you to sit back and simply take it all in.
➡ Find River Cruise tours HERE with GYG, or HERE with Viator.
And for those looking to spice things up, why not go for a romantic sunset cruise complete with dinner and drinks? Not only will you get a unique view of the coastline and beaches, but you’ll also have an unforgettable experience that’ll stay with you long after the cruise is over.

AquaDuck or QuackaDuck
This unique duck vehicle is perfect for those who want to explore on land and water in a new and exciting way. And always a big hit for the kids!
So, imagine driving around on the street like a car, taking in all the scenery, and then suddenly driving straight into the water and floating like a boat.
➡ Book your Duck tours HERE with GYG, or HERE with Viator.
It’s an adventure you don’t want to miss and budget-friendly for those wanting a city tour! It’s also operating seven days a week and with multiple tours throughout the day; there’s no excuse not to give the AquaDuck or Quackaduck a try.

Please Note: I haven’t included any of the Gold Coast Theme parks to this list today, but feel free to swap out any of these days to suit your interests.
Where to stay?
Finding a place to stay in Surfers Paradise will be ideal to base yourself on the fun and excitement this location brings. I generally try to get within a block or two of the shopping mall in Cavill Avenue (Like the Novotel Hotel), so we can find somewhere to eat throughout the day quickly.

For those who want to soak up the sun in style, there are luxurious high-rise apartments with stunning ocean views. There are also a ton of budget-friendly backpacker hostels and plenty of mid-range options that offer a comfortable stay without breaking the bank.
One of our other stays was at the Surfers International hotel (pictured below). It was around $140AUD per night and the views from the loungeroom and our Bedroom were brilliant!

How to Get there?
Flights
While the closest airport to Surfers is Coolangatta, many travellers find it more convenient to fly into Brisbane. Why? Well, first off, there are usually more flight options available, which means you’ll have more flexibility when it comes to choosing your travel times. Plus, sometimes flights to Brisbane can be a bit cheaper, especially if you’re flying internationally.
Note: While Brisbane is not part of the Gold Coast, it’s only a short distance away. Surprisingly, the city limit isn’t distinguishable driving from one to the other.
Car Hire
For me, hiring a car is always my go-to option as it gives me the freedom to move around at my convenience. And this can be done from the Brisbane or Coolangatta Airports.
Plus, it’s also handy when driving into the Hinterland (if you don’t want to book the tour).

However, I realize that this may not be the case for everyone. Therefore, most of the places included in my Itinerary above are easily accessible by foot, Public Transport and organized tours.
Shuttles
If you’re without a car, then getting from the airport couldn’t be easier with shuttle services. Simply book a spot on one of the services, sit back, and enjoy the ride.
Plus, with shuttle services, you have the added bonus of potentially meeting fellow travellers.

Best time to visit?
Honestly, anytime of year is the best time to visit Surfers Paradise! There’s no denying that it’s home to near-constant warmth, which makes it an attractive destination all year round.

But what makes each season special is the different experiences they bring.
- In the summer, the sun shines bright, and the beach is bustling with energy and crowds.
- Autumn allows for quieter moments, where you can enjoy the beauty without the crowds.
- Winter might not be known for surfing, but it is the perfect time to explore the hinterland and National Parks. Still the days are warm on the beach and less rain.
- And finally, spring brings about a newfound sense of energy and life, perfect for those looking to rejuvenate themselves.

Is it Safe at Night?
While I haven’t had any issues myself, I’m not a 20-year-old running around until the early hours of the morning. While I would be avoiding Cavill Avenue and the bar areas late at night, most of Surfers Paradise is perfectly safe.
Of course, as with any destination, it’s always important to be responsible and aware of your surroundings when you’re out at night. But overall, you should be able to enjoy your time here without any worries.

Is Surfers the Same as the Gold Coast?
Did you know that Surfer’s Paradise is actually just one suburb of the entire Gold Coast? That’s right, while it’s certainly one of the most popular areas, there’s so much more to explore on this incredible stretch of coastline.
Therefore, don’t underestimate the charm of other suburbs like Broadbeach, Burleigh Heads, Tallebudgera, Southport, Palm Beach, Coolangatta, and Main Beach. Each of these areas has its own unique vibe and provides ways to appreciate more great activities on the Gold Coast.
That’s why I have a separate five day Gold Coast itinerary here if you have more time to expand.

Wrap Up!
All in all, this is a thrilling destination that should be at the top of your list. With an abundance of activities, stunning views, and friendly locals, you’re sure to make some memories here that will last a lifetime.
