While you have so many options available you, I’m here today to give you my Review on the Uprising Beach Resort, situated on the Pacific Coast in Fiji.

Since I’ve traveled to Fiji several times and stayed in a few different hotels or Resorts, I think this one is worth mentioning and has everything beach lovers need for a perfect romantic getaway.

So, please read on where I go into more detail about why the Uprising Beach Resort stands out for me, than other Fijian Resorts.

My Overall Review on the Uprising Beach Resort in Fiji

Overall, the Uprising Beach Resort is worth staying at and an excellent choice for an exotic beachfront getaway! From the friendly staff to great food, plenty of relaxing activities, and it was perfect for our intimate escape.

We absolutely loved the beach huts Bures providing a picturesque landscape, with plenty of room for us to move around. Plus, there were amazing things to do, including kayaking, swimming, and learning more about the Fijian culture.

The hotel is located near Pacific Harbour, on the south-west coast of Fiji’s mainland and they provide everything you could need for the perfect stay by the sea. Think picturesque beaches, relaxing loungers, and sunset colours you could only dream of.

Reception Services?

It’s typical with most hotels or resorts, but check-in is at 2pm, and check-out is at 11:00am. But, for those with a late flight, you can request a late check-out for an additional charge.

When you arrive, you’re introduced at the Reception desk with a big, happy “BULA” greeting, which you’ll hear almost every day on your visit.

The Resort makes it simple and fast to get your stay off and running. Since you’ve paid for the room before you arrive, there isn’t much paperwork to go through. However, there might be a card imprint for security and a signature needed.

These staff members can also help you with tours and anything else to make your stay go smoothly – all you have to do is ask!

While I saw someone at reception most of the time, the Bar and restaurant counter was 5 metres away, and it didn’t take long to find someone to help.

Is there a Restaurant?

Yes, indeed, there is a restaurant, Bar & Poolside Bar available and apart from the occasional day trips, or tours outside of the Resort, I did eat and drink here most days in my week-long stay.

Satay Chicken entre

The Restaurant offered a romantic ambiance with many choices on a buffet breakfast and an à la cart lunch and dinner. There are specific times for the main meals, but a Snack menu and drinks are available from 10am to 10pm daily (which you can charge back to your room).

The staff were accommodating, friendly, and service was always to a high standard. I don’t think I ever had a bad meal and like to try a mix of Fijian favourites and Western food.

I suspect the pool bar is something used during busy times and high seasons. While I didn’t see it open often, the restaurant and bar were always available to take my drinks orders. (FYI – The Long Island Ice Teas were great)

Note: Consider taking note of the Happy Hour times for those $$ savings on your vacation.

What was the Accommodation like?

For my visit, I booked an islander-looking room (Standard Bure) overlooking the beach, which makes you feel like you’re in an expensive paradise, lapping up the luxury.

The Ocean View Standard Bures were just like this while also being very reasonable in price. So, I kept an eye on the standard price, and I think I booked when there was a deal

There was so much room to move around with a king-size bed, lounge area, balcony, and even a novelty outside shower. What more could you want?

Room options available?

There are a few different accommodation styles to choose from, including:

  • Commodore Deluxe Villas (Ocean & Garden View)
  • Standard Bures (Ocean & Garden View)
  • Tree House Dormitory (Shared)

What was the Pool area like?

The pool area was brilliant for taking a refreshing dip on those hot, sunny days. Admittedly, it’s smaller than I would typically see in a resort of this size, but you don’t lose out on quality.

The entire pool area is surrounded by lush greenery, giving it an extra tropical feel. Along with plenty of activities like lounging in the sun, taking a few laps to stay active, or playing with the kids in the shallower regions.

My stay was in a low season, so there were times we had the pool to ourselves. Plus if you didn’t know, I’m at my happiest near the water, so I managed to take a dip every day!

The resort offers different accommodations ranging from smaller rooms that provide all you need for a great stay, to luxury beach villas with incredible views of the fantastic beaches Fiji is renowned for.

All rooms are designed with comfort in mind, providing delightful amenities such as air conditioning, TVs, and complimentary Wi-Fi access.

With its convenient location beside the beach and unbeatable pricing, it’s an excellent choice for anyone seeking a romantic escapade or a well-deserved rest and relaxation.

How were the Staff interactions?

My review of the staff was always a friendly attitude and positive outlook.

To greet you, you always get a warm “Bula” and smiles from everyone on the team. However, making allowances for service expectations for “Fiji time” would be advisable.

What is “Fiji Time,” you ask? Well, this is the term the Fijian people use when things are not running on time, service is slow, or staff aren’t around. Since you’re on vacation, it’s time to switch off and chill with your arrangements, and don’t assume requests to be completed immediately.

Does the Resort provide entertainment?

You’ll find most Resorts in Fiji will provide or perform some form of entertainment most nights. For those interested in getting a taste of Fijian culture, this resort offers impressive displays like traditional Fijian fire dancing shows and cultural ceremonies.

This is generally performed by the locals, or they have been known to get the hotel guest involved.

Kava Ceremonies have been performed everywhere I’ve stayed in Fiji, including the village tours you can book. Even fun things like hermit crab or toad races, Limbo competitions, or learning how to basket weave

You will typically find an activities list displayed at reception with everything organised on your visit.

Is Breakfast included

Not everyone needs Breakfast included in their Hotel rates, but sometimes it can be convenient. For example, I have seen random deals advertised at specific properties that include meals and drinks, which is cost-effective in Fiji

While I don’t see it offered on all rates, you can get Breakfast included on some deals. I suggest to do your research and find the best rate and inclusions for your situation.

NOTE: there are options for grocery shopping nearby at Pacific Harbour Arts Village. This is a 20-minute walk (one way) or a short Taxi ride (I paid $2 per ride).

Is it safe?

As with any overseas travel, safety is always a top concern for me, in one way or another. But, let me put your mind at ease!

After personally visiting Fiji four times, I think overall, Fiji is a safe country for tourists to visit, and this includes staying at the Uprising Beach Resort.

That being said, with different levels of safety and many considerations, it’s still wise to be aware of your surroundings and take necessary precautions. This includes:

  • Don’t drink tap water,
  • avoid walking alone at night in the cities,
  • and take heed of weather warnings because Fiji has been known to experience natural disasters like Cyclones.

Things to do at the Uprising Beach Resort!

Most of the resorts in Fiji don’t have a lot within walking distance, so you are restricted to the resort for almost everything. It’s not like Bali or Thailand, where you can walk outside your accommodation and have 10 restaurants or shops within 100 metres.

Apart from that, you can find more activities on the entire Fiji mainland, which can include booking online for attractions outside the resort (with hotel pickup).

However, the resort lists daily activities in reception and a few of my favourites will include:

Kava Ceremony

The Kava Ceremony is an exotic and cultural experience you won’t forget!

This traditional Fijian ceremony requires filtering an extract from a local plant root in water. It creates a relaxing and social drink and is generally served from a coconut shell to tourists.

Based on my personal experience, it just looks like dirty water, and drinking it made my lips numb and feel funny. Although, I think you have to drink a whole lot to feel the sleepy calming effect you hear so much about.

Kayaking

The Resort rests on the beach of some calm waters, and kayaking is a favourite pastime. Even better, you can hire them for free and reach some other secluded beach areas.

The excellent calm waters near the resort make it a great option, even for beginners (or kids) wanting to try out the sport.

On top of being great exercise and family-friendly

Pacific Harbour Arts Village or Shops

Whether you’re looking for souvenirs for friends back home or just some postcard-perfect memories to bring with you, the Pacific Harbour Arts Village is the place to find them.

That said, I managed to add more magnets to my collection and purchased a wooden spear to hang on my wall.

They also carry groceries and other supplies, so if you’re in the market for snacks, or essential items that you want to store in your room back at the resort. Also, prices here are more reasonable than the hotel, including bottled water.

The Fijian people are very friendly and welcoming

Spend time at the Beach.

This Resort features clean waters and a soft sandy bottom. Plus, it’s excellent for swimming, and waterproof shoes aren’t needed for protection.

Unfortunately, it was unsuitable for snorkelling, but you can purchase tours to some great local spots if required.

The immaculate beach in front of the Resort stretches for at least a few kilometres. So it’s possible to walk the shores any time of day for exercise or catch the magnificent sunset colours.

This also means you’re not limited to the resort, and you can explore other areas.

Snorkelling

Snorkelling is an absolute must-do activity and lucky for you, there are incredible tours along the Pacific Coast or near Beqa Island.

Imagine exploring the crystal-clear waters, discovering vibrant coral reefs, and spotting exotic marine life like Nemo and Dory.

Shark Diving

The Beqa Lagoon Shark Diving was one of my biggest drawcards to visit Fiji, and the boat tours departed a short distance away from the Uprising Resort. Courtesy taxis would pick you up and take you 5 minutes down the road to the dive centre, then return you to the resort after lunch!

This is classed as one of the biggest shark dives in the world. Namely due to the variety of sharks (including Tiger Sharks & Bull Sharks), the increased numbers on a single dive, and for diving without a cage.

We loved it so much that we’ve flown back again just to complete more dives!

How to get to the Resort?

Getting to the Uprising Beach Resort can happen in one of two ways. This would be either:

  • Flying into Nadi International Airport (Main Terminal for Fiji) and obtaining road transportation that takes about 2.5 to 3 hours.
  • Or boarding a second domestic Flight from Nadi to Suva Domestic Airport and obtaining road transportation which takes about an hour.

There are shuttle services, private transfers or Taxi’s that can be organised, or even hiring your own car is also possible. Surprisingly, your own car can be convenient for exploring other areas of the mainland.

➡Find your favourite brand & compare prices for your Rental Car HERE

Honestly, with the time it takes to connect through Nadi to Suva, you could have been in a car and halfway there already. This is why I’ve always chosen a flight to Nadi and Road Transportation from there.

Not only is it less messing around with connections, but the halfway stop at the “Tappoo” store in Sigatoka is excellent for stocking up on supplies(e.g., Water & Snacks).

How to get to Fiji

International flights are entering Nadi daily from all over the world.

Depending on your budget and preferred mode of travel, Nadi can be reached on a direct or connecting flight. This is from major cities like Los Angeles, Auckland, Brisbane, San Francisco, Honolulu, and Sydney (just to name a few!).

From Australia, we can fly with airline services like Fiji Airways, Virgin Australia, Jetstar Airways, or Qantas. But they also partner with Air Vanuatu, Air New Zealand, Aircalin, Air Niugini, Nauru Airlines, and Solomon Airlines
