Review: Beachfront Towers in Maroochydore!

If you’re planning a Sunshine Coast getaway and looking for somewhere central to stay, the Beachfront Towers Hotel in Maroochydore might catch your eye. With its prime location near the beach, ocean-view apartments, and easy access to everything the coast has to offer.

But is it really worth booking? Accommodation on the Sunshine Coast can vary widely, from budget-friendly motels to luxury resorts, and it’s not always easy to know what you’re getting for the price.

Having recently stayed at Beachfront Towers myself, I’ll share my full review and experience, from the pros and cons, to what the rooms are really like, the facilities available, and whether I’d recommend it over other accommodation options in Maroochydore. By the end, you’ll know exactly whether this hotel suits your travel style and budget.

My Overall Review of the Beachfront Towers Apartments

My overall review of staying at the Beachfront Towers Apartments in Maroochydore is extremely positive. The location was brilliant, situated directly across from the beach for my sunrise walks by the water.

The room itself was a little outdated, but it made up for that with its ample space, amazing views, a large L-shaped lounge, and a generously sized kitchen area (if you wanted to save some with cooking yourself).

I could clearly see we were assigned a 2-bedroom apartment, but the second room was locked, since it was just the two of us. As a couple, it honestly might have been too much room, so I see it being suitable for family getaways or a group of 4 friends.

Plus, it is convenient to a nearby selection of eateries and even a lovely breakfast location selling my rare Turmeric Coffee.

We could not have been happier with the choice! Therefore, Matt and I would definitely stay at the Beachfront Towers again in the future.

The Maroochydore location of the Beachfront Towers on the Sunshine Coast, has some positives and negatives.

✅ Pros:

• It has a prime location (See map HERE) directly across from Alexandra Headland or Maroochydore Beach, easy access to beach activities, and my morning walks along the shoreline.
• It’s address on Alexandra Parade (main road) is approximately 15 minutes from the Sunshine Coast Airport and 1.5 hours from Brisbane Airport.
• It’s also close to popular attractions in Mooloolaba, but still far enough away NOT to feel overpowered by tourists. This provides a great base for exploring the area.

❌ Cons:

• Limited public transport options, making it less convenient for those without a car. But this is the same around the entire Sunshine Coast.
• You can always use an app to book an Uber or Taxi. Otherwise, there is a bus stop about 300 metres down Alexandra Road that travels to Mooloolaba.
• Apart from that, The Balcony & pool area can be quite noisy from the main road, but this is subdued when the sliding glass doors are closed.

How much did it cost?

I felt the room rates at the Beachfront Towers were comparable for the area, especially given the prime location. We paid $200 per night for the one-bedroom apartment, but other factors like season, availability, and the number of nights needed can affect the amount (which I have seen up to $300pn).

We also take advantage of the Genius discount, securing our stay of the Beachfront Towers through Booking.com, which does take it down a notch too.

Just look out for deals.

How was the Accommodation?

The Beachfront Towers offer self-contained apartments, including one and two-bedroom options. I’ve heard that the décor varies between units, as many of the units are privately owned, so some might feel more modern or updated than others.

Overall, it was a clean and spacious and perfect for a week-long stay on the Sunshine Coast. Both Fans and Air-conditioning were provided and will definitely help on those hot summer days.

Bedroom, Lounge & Balcony Area

Our bedroom contained 1 large double bed (presuming there was two singles in the other room), 2 bedside tables and a large wardrobe for our luggage. Roll-out beds are available upon request for an additional guest charge.

The Lounge Dining area was fitted with an L-shaped Lounge suite in front of a big screen TV, dining Table for meals and a few plants.

The Balcony was my favourite spot for morning coffee or relaxing drinks in the afternoon. As the apartments face the ocean in the east, you are going to catch the sunrise every morning, and the sweltering afternoon sun will set behind the building (so you won’t see it).

Kitchen & Bathroom Area

The kitchen had a large bench space, oven, kettle, toaster, microwave, large fridge, and plenty of kitchen cutlery, utensils, pots, and pans. All together with a window view over the beach. There is also a small supply of Tea, Coffee and Sugar.

The bathroom and laundry showed the most wear and tear but had everything you needed for a lengthy stay. We didn’t use the Washing Machine or Dryer, but it was there when you needed it. Plus, the water pressure in the shower was great for cleaning off those sandy feet after walking at the beach.

Like most Apartment style rooms in Australia, there is NO daily servicing (unless staying longer than 7 days), so the towels will generally be replaced after you leave. You also need to bring your own towel to use at the Pool and Beach.

You do, however, have a small supply of toiletries like shampoo, conditioner and body wash or soap. Or you can purchase more from reception for a small charge, or just buy your own at the local Night Owl around the corner.

Note that you must dispose of Rubbish and clean the dishes before leaving. If not, you will be charged an extra fee ($15 & $25) for the actual cleaning person to do it for you.

Facilities available in the Hotel?

All Guests can enjoy a heated outdoor pool and sauna, which are great for relaxing after a day at the beach. My visit was in winter, but with a hefty filming schedule, I didn’t have time to use either.

But, I will next time!

Right beside the pool, is the Barbeque area with a couple of large metal picnic benches and 3 BBQ’s, which can be used between 7am and 9pm daily.

Something that was a big surprise to me was the games room. While this isn’t complimentary ($1 & $2 coins), you did have a pool Table, an Arcade Game and an Air Hockey Table.

They even had a Chocolate and Packet Chips vending machine at Reception, for those random munchy cravings.

Service, Dining, Accessibility, Security

Service and Hospitality?

They have a check-in time of 2pm and check-out of 10am, which is pretty much the standard in Australia. Although, we showed up at 1pm and were still able to get into our room. This is something you can only find out about a day or two earlier, and easier to get in the low seasons.

The reception is open for the Standard Monday to Friday hours but closes at 12pm (midday) on Saturday. If you’re trying to check in outside of these times, then I would contact them beforehand to note the procedure. Otherwise, there is an after-hours phone number to call in emergencies.

We only saw one reception staff member on entry, who was very friendly and accommodating. I could have asked more if I wasn’t a local to South-East Queensland, and I’m sure they would help with directions or booking tours.

What are your dining options?

I loved how the Beachfront Towers was within walking distance from local cafes like Café Venice, Takeaway Fast food like Nando’s, Chinese, McDonalds, Night Owl and an Italian restaurant connected to the hotel.

The Alex Surf Club is 850 metres walk away, offering affordable meals with ocean views. Other nearby options include cafes like Milk & Beans (750 Metres), or specialty cuisines like Japanese, Asian, and Indian within a short distance.

Apart from that, you can check out the options at Mooloolaba (5-minute drive away) for more upscale dining.

Car Parking & Accessibility?

One parking space is provided for each unit, but the underground car park is very tight, and you could potentially have issues parking a large car or 4WD (Height Limit is 1.95 metres).

Street parking is limited during busy times, but look at all the surrounding streets, like Wirraway and Parker Street.

Two lifts service all the rooms, so there is no lugging your bags up many flights of stairs.

I would say it’s disability-friendly – easy enough for those with limited walking, making it to and from your room. However, not ALL the facilities are wheelchair-friendly (like the pool), since there are a couple of stairs to get there.

Is there good Security?

You can access the lifts and rooms from both the underground car park and from the street.

The underground car park has key access, which automatically closes after you have driven through. The driveway also works one way, so you’ll be exiting through another Key-access door to get out.

There are automatic sliding entry doors from the street, but overnight, these need to be opened with a key, and cameras will film you coming through reception.

There are 4 rooms per floor, and each room has it’s own Balcony, which is NOT connected to your neighbour. I would probably still close the balcony door when I’m out, but this is only because I’m used to seeing Birds flying in to steal your belongings (this happens more in the Whitsunday/Airlie Beach Area).

Apart from that, the South-East Queensland area is known for quick afternoon storms, so keep the door closed for that.

When a stay here is not suitable?

While I’ve discussed all the great things about The Beachfront Towers accommodation, it might not suit everyone. This includes not being suitable for people travelling with pets!

Additionally, All the rooms are non-smoking, but they do allow you to smoke on the Balcony. However, if smoke wanders inside, you could be charged an extra cleaning fee.

There is no loud noise allowed after 9pm, so no party’s or large get-togethers. Truthfully, I see this as a positive, knowing I’m not going to be kept awake all night!

Light Sleepers could have an issue sleeping with the main road traffic going by. This is reduced when the sliding doors are closed, but still, this might affect some people. If you’re a light sleeper, then bring some sleeping earplugs, just in case!

Since I live locally in Brisbane, I didn’t need to use the Wi-Fi, but I have heard this has been inconsistent and not always the best. If you have concerns, then I suggest bringing your own data service, or trying a nearby café.

To be honest, I find it rare to find good, FREE Wi-fi at any hotel, so sometimes you need to pay for it for any reliability.

What are the Things to do nearby:

The Sunshine Coast is full of exciting activities and entertainment. As a local to south-east Queensland, I’ve always taken full advantage of this!

Also, look into the Glass House Mountains and areas that are a day trip away from the Coast.

• Alexandra Headland Skate Park
• Hiking Up Mount Coolum

• Hiring Neuron Scooters to ride along the Coast
• Mooloolaba has Sunset Cruises, Whale Watching Tours, Jet Boat Rides, Sea Life Aquarium and Aqua Duck tours.

• Eumundi Markets
• The Hinterland has areas like Kondalilla Falls, Gardners Falls, Glass House Mountains, Mount Ngungun Summit climb, and Mount Beerburrum.
