Review: Marina Bay Sands Infinity Pool & Hotel in Singapore

When people think of Singapore, the image that often comes to mind is the world-famous Marina Bay Sands infinity pool, perched 57 stories above the city skyline. For many, it’s not just a pool but a bucket list experience, and staying at the hotel is the only way to access it.

But here’s the catch: an overnight stay at Marina Bay Sands isn’t exactly cheap. Many travellers wonder, is the pool really worth the hype, or is it just an Instagram gimmick? And what about the hotel itself, do the rooms, and service live up to the hefty price tag, or should you just admire it from afar?

During our stay, we finally had the chance to test it all out. From swimming in that surreal infinity pool overlooking the city, to checking into the rooms. If you’re planning a trip to Singapore and trying to decide whether splurging on Marina Bay Sands is worth it for you, this honest review will help.

We spent all afternoon in the Marina Bay Sands Infinity Pool

My Review: Marina Bay Sands Infinity Pool & Hotel!

Overall, It’s an undeniable “Yes” from me, that the Marina Bay Sand Infinity Pool & Hotel is worth visiting. However, it’s debatable on whether the cost of the hotel room is worth it just to swim in the infinity pool.

I suppose this would depend on your budget and how desperate you are for that Instagramable shot over the city of Singapore. But, if you take advantage of everything you have available, then yes, I think it’s worth the cost to stay at Marina Bay Sands Hotel.

There is an overflow section and walkway between the pool and the buildings edge

If you’re looking for a luxurious experience to relax and unwind, chilling in the Infinity pool will definitely hit the spot. We were lucky to have the opportunity to stop by here a few years ago when I was returning from the Maldives.

Matt and I had a 3-day stopover package with Singapore Airlines, and for convenience, we stayed in the city for the first couple of nights. And on our last night, we transferred to the Marina Bay Sands Hotel and never left until checkout the next day.

TIP: If you’re watching your pennies, you can look out for accommodation deals or sign up for hotel emailing lists to get great promotions on rooms.

The Infinity Pool

Sorry, but the Marina Bay Infinity pool is a private and luxurious facility for “Hotel Guests” only. Therefore, non-guests cannot simply stroll up and jump in, you must book a room and use your room key at the Pool gate.

For me, the Infinity Pool was all it was cracked up to be and didn’t disappoint. I was mostly impressed with the adults-only section, and allowing us to meet like-minded travellers while chilling in the sun.

Its unique design and aerial views of Singapore make it a one-of-a-kind infinity pool experience. The area around the pool itself is really well done, with a modern design and plenty of seating and relaxing areas.

For convenience, you have sun chairs (in and out of the water), tables, a restaurant, and a bar.

I don’t know if it gets busy on some days more than others, but I didn’t feel crowded while a couple of hundred people were around. Although, sometimes that changed at the pool’s edge, where most people took their selfie photos.

The infinity edge is moderately ok for those with height imbalances. However, it doesn’t simply drop off, and you’re not looking directly at the ground. Instead, you see an overflow section and a walking path for maintenance workers, situated a little lower than the pool.

My favourite time in the pool was at sunset, watching the different colours splash over the sky. As a photographer, I just love the nightscapes and the city skyline in the distance.

The pool is open from 6AM and closes at 11PM daily. We certainly took advantage of this, spending almost 7 hours in the pool alone. Additionally, nothing tops an early morning swim to start your day off right or jumping in late at night for a few laps before bed.

The Infinity pool is open until late at night to see the best skyline city lights

Bar Service

The Bar Service and Cocktails was my favourite part of feeling luxurious and special. I honestly thought the bartender must have been stalking us because he was always there taking our order as soon as our drinks got low.

Service was impeccable, and drinks were delivered quickly to our pool area. We could even set up a convenient Bar TAB which was charged to our room and paid on exit. This means we could avoid paying cash or carrying any cards around.

There were a lot of cocktail flavours (and we tried almost all of them), but don’t forget to sample the signature “Singapore Sling.”

Make sure you try a few cocktails on the list!

The Hotel Room

Trying to stick to a budget, I think I brought the cheapest room I could get (since it was all about the pool). However, still to this day, I think it would have to be the biggest hotel room I’ve ever been in.

The style and luxury were divine with “his and her” dual bathrooms, toilet, and bidet. The bed was probably too firm for me (Typical in Asian countries), but it’s honestly difficult to please everyone.

Overall, it’s definitely worth visiting and I recommend staying at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel, for the Infinity Pool.

Our room had plenty of space and a King size bed

Skypark Observation Deck & Rooftop Bar

For those wishing to take in the picturesque view of the infinity pool without experiencing it first-hand, there is no better place than the Observation Deck on top of the hotel.

You can pay a small charge for the Skypark Observation deck and bar. Ultimately, this will give you the exact same view across the city skyline, but you’ll only see a side-on view of the Infinity pool (without access).

➡  Book Observation Deck Tickets HERE with GYG, or HERE with Viator.

How much does it cost to Stay?

Depending on your room type and Time of year, guests may enjoy prices at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel FROM S$680 per night ($530US, $803AUD), which could also include a fantastic buffet breakfast.

For those on a budget, look out for the Deluxe room at 35 square metres in size with a king or twin bed.

Also, keep an eye on the specials, last-minute deals, or prices without cancellation. This was the room I chose to stay in, and very luxurious compared to what I would typically purchase!

Fun Facts about the Marina Bay Sands Resort!

The Marina Bay Sands Hotel is an integrated resort that is owned by the Las Vegas Sands Corporation. It’s characterized by its 3 towers which are connected by a massive Skypark that can hold up to 3,900 people.

Like other observation decks in the world, it’s the perfect place to get incredible panoramas from downtown Singapore and Sentosa Island. While giving you the illusion that you’re at the edge of the building.

In fact, there’s an overflowing section where the water is collected on a lower level which then gets pumped back into the pool.

FAQ’s – Common Questions?

What is the Highest Infinity pool in the World?

The highest infinity pool in the world is the Dubai’s Aura Skypool, which towers over other pools at the height of 200 metres! However, that’s honestly not much of a difference compared to the 191 metres of the Marina Bay Sands.

Can you fall from an Infinity Pool?

The quick answer is No! Infinity pools are entirely safe and are more of an optical illusion, as opposed to dropping off altogether at that height.

In fact, the Marina Bay Sand infinity pool had a good 2-3 metres between the pool’s edge and the building’s edge. So the optical illusion is the edge of the building is slightly lower than the pool and appears as if it’s not there.

Honestly, this area looked like a walkway, and expecting this was for maintenance workers around the pool.
