About Tasmania

Tasmania is located in the south, 240 kilometres off the coast of Victoria. Nicknamed Tassie and in fact, it’s the only Island State of Australia. It covers roughly 60 thousand square kilometres, and a population of over 500 thousand people.

Additionally, it’s promoted as a natural state, and protected areas of Tasmania cover about 42% of its land area. Consequently, this includes over 18 national parks and World Heritage Sites.

Located in the south is the Island is Tasmania’s capital, Hobart. Surprisingly, this is the second oldest capital in Australia, after Sydney. The skyline in Hobert is dominated by the 1,271-metre (4,170 ft) Mount Wellington, and the harbour forms the second-deepest natural port in the world. Tasmania is a wonderful travelling destination, both to explore the stunning wilderness or, alternatively, the charming cities and towns on the island.

Things to do

One of the biggest attractions drawing tourists every year would be Cradle Mountain, which features a popular 7-day hiking trail. Secondly, learning the grim history at the Port Arthur historic sites or exploring the Freycinet National Park. Furthermore, you can take in the views of Mount Wellington or a day trip to Bruny Island. Lastly, as rainfall is high over the island, you can witness some extraordinary waterfalls. With this in mind, know that Hobart is the second driest capital city in Australia.

Climate

You will find some of the coldest temperatures in Tasmania, with an average maximum reaching 18 degrees Celsius. Therefore, this is where you’re likely to find it snowing and can happen any time of year.
